Silas Update, Errrbody's favorite ;)

Our little man is FIVE months old now. Officially met the milestone on the 15th, but we are just getting around to writing an update. He is cute as ever and basically crawling. He is getting up on his hands and knees/toes and moving forward. He can only go a couple of feet at a time and sometimes he still goes backwards, but he his figuring out how to get to where he wants to go. AND has already learned that he wants the things he cannot have, like electrical outlets and extension cords. We haven't experienced any tantrums yet when we move him away from the dangerous things, but I am sure those days are not too far off. Unless we just have a perfect baby who will never do anything bad... it is a nice thought, no? Currently he finds joy in tappy-tap-tapping on my computer keyboard. He lunges for it when he is sitting on my lap, whether I am using it or not, he wants it. He sees it and he feels the need to bang away. Sometimes I let him. He loves my phone too. Pretty much anything he sees me with. He wants. No toy can sway his determination to get his hands (and drool) on his Mommy's things. Although he is teething, we see no teeth. It really isn't an issue unless he gets over tired and then it seems to be a bit more of a bother to him. His drool increases and so does his impatience. However, despite his baby woes, he is a great little boy who is just growing up way too fast.

My little Muscle Man
As you may know from recent posts, we have recently gone and returned home from Florida. It was an adventure... I thought I was prepared. Read about and "pinned" all I could about traveling with an infant. However, nothing could have prepared me for missing our connection and spending 8 hours in the Atlanta airport. Actually Silas was great at the airport, the problem was he wouldn't/couldn't sleep. There were no dim rooms or quiet places. Lots of people to watch and too many things to see. Nursing was another issue. If I used the cover he would get angry because he wanted to see so we tried nursing in the bathroom, but the constant flushing of toilets scared and distracted him. Overall, in a 19 hour stretch our little guy got maybe, maybe a total of 3 hours of sleep and he didn't eat hardly at all. SO by the time we finally landed in Florida he was extremely over tired and once we made it to our rental car he was extremely hungry. From the airport to where we stayed he screamed a wailing ear piercing scream for the 1 hour and 20 minutes it took us to get there. It.was.fun. I wish I was exaggerating, I wish I could say it wasn't that bad, but it was. It was terrible. Needless to say he ate and crashed like a rock, but the rest of the weekend didn't get much better. He wasn't terribly fussy, but he never did eat or sleep well. His surroundings were too different and he wasn't in HIS bed. We tried, but he just could not get enough rest. He became emotionless and would hardly smile and definitely no cooing or laughing. It broke my heart to see how tired he was and know there was nothing I could really do. To make the trip even less fun, the weather wasn't great. It was cool and the wind was strong and would beat you with the sand and broken shells on the beach. We didn't get to take Silas out or get cute little photos of his first time experiencing the waves. Sad. The EOD Ball was actually fun and we were able to eat at a couple of our favorite places down in Destin, but when all was said and done, as thankful as we are that we could go, it was not worth the trouble. It took several days for Silas to catch up on sleep and get back to normal. He was just so exhausted, but we perservered and learned a lot of lessons. One thing was obvious, Silas is a great flyer and I am sure on future trips it won't be so bad, but for the time being we are a little bit scarred and going to take it easy on travel.

In addition to all the other news, on Silas' 5 month anniversary of being out of utero we celebrated by introducing him to Rice Cereal. He loved it, but since his first encounter with "solids" we have moved to oatmeal because a friend of mine informed me it was easier for him to digest. He loved that even more. He takes it well and we haven't experienced any negative effects, in fact, he is sleeping much better and for longer periods at night.
So excited for his next bite

Mmmmm
"Gimme that oatmeal!"

Hope you enjoyed the Silas update :) . I love talking about him and how spectacular he is. I can't seem to get enough of him, even when he is over tired and screaming his little round head off. He is my sweet boy and I cherish the snot out of him. He poops a lot and is a stinky boy, but who would want it any other way. Haha!

Confessions of a Lazy Lady

Well, I have avoided this post for as long as I could. We failed. We failed in our weight loss goals. We didn't fail so bad that we gained, but we didn't lose. Turns out it is really difficult to stay motivated with a baby in the house. You really have to make up your mind to make things happen because life is throwing you constant curve balls. Even if you have a pretty good routine, something can and usually will upset it. You can't count on anything, which has made gaining momentum difficult to say the least. You have to prioritize and learn to do things even when you feel lazy and tired (which is all.the.time.) There is no "I will have a chance to do it later" because later comes and you are more tired and busy than you were when the last opportunity arose. It is beyond frustrating, but convicting. I am realizing where I am weak and how prone both Rob and myself are to excuses. It is always going to be easier to cook a DiGiorno instead of prep for a salad. It is always going to be easier to sit on the couch and relax while the baby is sleeping than get up and do a 30 minute workout. There will always be periods where life is strolling along smoothly and then BAM you hit a giant pot hole and it ruins your whole day or maybe even week. You just have to make things happen no matter the inconvenience. I am living in a constant stream of lazy excuses. I need to break out. Bust free from the "I'll do it later" to a "get it done now" kind of mom. So easy it is to think it, so difficult it is to make the change. I am unhappy with my laziness, but comfortable. Oh so comfortable. One thing is for sure, this is a journey best accompanied by some Holy Spirit, for my own resolve will surely fail me. I need grace and strength from the Most High. Through Him all things are possible and because His words are true, I know it is true I can make this happen.
No doubt it is a bit disappointing and embarassing to admit my failures on my blog. And it should be clear that I did not want to publicly voice my lack of progress. I mean, it has been a couple of months at least since I wrote out my goals for you to see, but here we all are reading how far I did not come and how far I still hope to go. I pray others are having more success than I am (wouldn't be too hard) and enjoying their new lifestyle as a healthier person. Maybe in another month I will have something more positive to report... maybe...
Until that day of (what we hope will be) good news, soon you can expect a baby update. Our Florida trip has come and gone and we survived. That is all I can say. We made it through the tortuous travel and came out the other side having learned plenty of lessons like, if you can help it, don't travel with a baby. However, this is a story for another posting that I will share sometime in the coming days. Here is a pic to hold you over ;)

What a cute drooly chunk

p.s. The Apple Carrot Muffins turned out very, what is a good word??? Very, meh. BUT I made some granola that was amazing. You will like the Fruit and Nut Granola too if you like coconut. It is super simple to make and I think it is well worth the time and dirty dishes.

Anywho, thanks for stopping in to witness the confessions of one lazy lady.
